Working in collaboration with Brydell Partners, the transformation of The Galleria in Crawley has turned this once ‘tired and dated’ envelope of a building into a refreshed, sleek office, offering a forward-thinking work environment, inside and out.
The building had undergone vast internal improvements and we were tasked with aligning the exterior envelope to reflect the internal contemporary feel. The challenge, therefore, was to ‘cosmetically’ alter the appearance of the envelope to offer an up-to-date alternative.
Changes were also made to internal areas to enable a multiple tenant occupancy and to refresh the existing basement parking area. The ‘cosmetic’ exterior changes were applied to the envelope in full and comprised of re-coating the existing ‘base’ materials, such as re-coating the aluminium roof and re-colouring the brick walls to create a more up-to-date aesthetic.
The façade of the building, although largely untouched, was altered slightly through the introduction of larger window modules, replacing the previous dated smaller lattice design. To modernise the entrance we removed the existing gable form and introduced a cleaner ‘box’ arrangement, which aligns with the strong horizontals in the building façade.
This ‘cosmetic’ renovation has restored The Galleria to its rightful place as a cutting-edge workspace suitable for high profile clients seeking an innovative work environment in the centre of Crawley. The dramatic, striking refurb has ensured its re-emergence onto the commercial market has both endurance and longevity.
