One of our most recently completed projects, Thames Tower, has appeared in the Architects Journal (AJ). Jon Astbury, deputy architecture editor at the AJ, has written up a fantastic piece on the building.
The £44 million project has seen a tired, outdated 1970s office block reinvigorated to create 195,000 sq ft of modern office space with retail units and collaborative workspace at ground level.
The Architects Journal Article
The article takes a look at the design influences of the building, which has taken inspiration from one of the world’s first skyscrapers, the Guaranty Building in Buffalo, New York by Louis Sullivan. Whilst the colour and materials take their cues from the surrounding 19th-century terracotta brick buildings.
Also touching on a number of the design and construction challenges, the article explains how we worked closely with the structural engineers in order to successfully add four storeys to the building. This intervention with another of other subtle changes to the buildings shape has ensured that the total amount of lettable area has increased by 62,000 sq ft.
