We have just recently finished the final touches to our recently constructed model of Thames Tower in Reading. The building concept aims to reinterpret some of Reading’s architectural materials in a contemporary manner by using a modern cladding system using terracotta which will create a warm and striking building bringing colour and richness to the station square.
Additional floors have been added which will provide the building with a much improved aspect ratio. By removing the existing first floor it has also been possible to create a grand, double height ground floor reception with an appropriate civic scale for this important location.
Externally a new curved stepped landscape (amphitheater) will be created. This new amphitheater will be formed of double height steps to allow people to sit within this new plaza and form a viewing area for the adjoining Station Hill area, referred to as ‘pocket park’.
These wholesale changes which are being implemented at Thames Tower will create an environment fit for the future. Keeping as much of the existing building as possible to achieve strong environmental performance was seen as being essential to the success of the development. This ensures that Thames Tower provides tenants with everything that is needed by the modern commercial tenant; from excellent connectivity and services through to minimal energy use and running costs.
