Due for completion in December 2016 the final touches are being made to the Charter Building, a 225,000 sq ft commercial office building in the centre of Uxbridge, London.
Designed by architects, dn-a and developed by Landid, the project focuses on transforming the previously disused office building into a design-led and user-focused urban workplace.
The existing 1980’s fully glazed office block has undergone a significant ‘face lift’. Externally the original glass façade has been completely removed and replaced with an environmentally friendly façade. The new colour scheme allows the building to sympathetically blend into its surroundings.
On the exterior the landscaping is taking shape.
Designed by Turkington Martin, it incorporates a number of terraced lawns, cascading plants and herbaceous plants which provide height and seasonal interest.
Internally, progress has been made on the dramatic central atrium. The pop-out boxes protruding into the space at alternating levels seemingly float above the ground and will be used as meeting pods.
As well as being a breath-taking feature, the atrium will create a central community space for informal meetings and provide natural light to the office floors that look into it from above. Along the central ‘street, which connects both north and south entrances, timber panelling has been used to break up the space, providing areas for occupiers to collaborate and to encourage chance encounters.
Completion of the building will be in early December 2016, with furniture and interiors to be finished in early 2017.
